Welcome

Phoenix Academy Sixth Form is an academic sixth form with the highest aspirations for its students. The vast majority of our sixth form teachers went to Russell Group universities and Oxbridge, and as such are perfectly placed to support our students to move onto the very best higher educational institutions. Our enrichment offer ensures that students get used to university-style seminars, pursue work experience, and explore wider cultural opportunities. Through this, we seek to develop intellectual, socially minded individuals who can be the leaders of tomorrow.

Our students benefit hugely from our smaller than average class sizes, which gives more 1-2-1 tailored support from subject experts, and our pastoral team in Sixth Form which allows students to feel incredibly well supported with not only the jump from Y11 to Y12, but also with the UCAS process, interview preparation, student wellbeing and beyond.

We are incredibly proud of the provision that is offered to students who attend Phoenix Sixth Form, and have seen an increase in our academic outcomes every year for the last three consecutive years. There is no doubt that we have built a special community at Phoenix Sixth Form, and students who join us for Post-16 study will be in safe hands.

A message from our Head of Sixth Form

It has been a privilege to lead Phoenix Sixth Form for the last four years, and watch it go from strength to strength.

Post-16 is a pivotal chapter. At Phoenix, we recognise that this is a time when young people begin to define not just their academic pathways, but the kind of adults they aspire to become.

We are proud to offer an academically rigorous environment, paired with exceptional pastoral care. Our students benefit from expert teaching, tailored guidance for university and career pathways, and a wide range of leadership and enrichment opportunities. Whether they are preparing for competitive university applications, apprenticeships, or entering the professional world, we support them every step of the way.

What truly sets Phoenix apart is the balance we strike between high expectations and genuine care. We challenge our Sixth Form students to strive for excellence, while also nurturing resilience and self-discipline. These qualities are essential—not just for success in examinations, but for navigating the complexities of life beyond school.

Our values of Knowledge, Aspiration, and Respect remain at the heart of everything we do. In the Sixth Form, these are lived out through intellectual curiosity, purposeful ambition, and a strong sense of community.

If you are considering Phoenix for the next stage of your journey, I warmly encourage you to explore our Sixth Form offer further or attend one of our Y11 admissions events. I would be delighted to welcome you personally and share more about what makes this such a special place.

Ms Hope Wilson, Head of Sixth  Form

Pastoral Care

At Phoenix Academy, we are proud of the high standards of pastoral care that our sixth form students receive to help them triumph at A-level. We know the pressures that come with studying at A-level and make every effort to ensure students can enjoy their studies with the necessary emotional support in place.

All students have a tutor who knows them as an individual, providing highly personalised support. We encourage our students to look after their mental health with all provided access to our school councillor and given consistent support on how to manage their workload and wellbeing.

As a sixth form pastoral team, we collaborate with students to improve the support we offer. Students therefore benefit from a half-termly pastoral check-in where they can raise any concerns and request additional support. The sixth form’s Student Leaders organise student voice surveys once a term to assess student wellbeing, so we can consistently improve the support we give.

Sixth Form Life

Students have strong relationships with sixth form leaders, including form tutors, a dedicated Head of Year and sixth form administrator. Through this, they are supported to make the most of every day. Students have their own dedicated study centre and common room with roof terrace, and we take pride in supporting students to become driven and disciplined in their use of independent study time. Our student leadership team takes on substantive leadership roles within the school at large, championing student voice through chairing the school council, supporting clubs and extracurricular activities, and liaising regularly with school leaders to ensure the very best experience for all.
