FAQs

Academy Meals

The academy uses a cashless catering system for the canteen purchases.

At Phoenix Academy, we believe that a nutritious diet and regular exercise can be the fuel for our students’ success, giving them the energy to face the challenges of the day.

In the school restaurant, delicious, healthy, and balanced meals are freshly prepared at lunchtimes. Lunchtimes are also an opportunity to socialise with friends and peers over a fresh, tasty meal. The restaurant menu changes weekly but always offer a fantastic choice of hot meals, soups, salads, and sandwiches, with our four-week menu system providing variety of choice.

We do strongly recommend, therefore, that our students eat in our restaurant. If your child is bringing in packed lunches, we ask that these include healthy and balanced choices. A good guideline for a healthy packed lunch is a sandwich, piece of fruit, dairy product and small snack. Fizzy drinks and energy drinks are not allowed, and only clear bottles of water are permitted during lessons.

School meals are paid for via a ‘cashless catering’ system: all students ‘pay’ via a fingerprint impression that links to their individual account. Parents must pre-load funds onto their child's account in advance online. Using this system reduces the need for students to carry money to school each day, and speeds up the lunch queue.

Free School Meals

Your child may be entitled to free school meals

Even if your child does not wish to eat free school meals, but is entitled to them, it's worth applying because for each child entitled to free school meals the Academy could receive funding of £1,300 per year to help with tuition, resources, coaching and extra assistance. Find out if your child is entitled to free school meals.

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

· Income Support

· Income-based Jobseekers Allowance

· Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

· Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

· The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit

· Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

· Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

· Universal Credit
