Phoenix Academy

Academy life

“High expectations for all academically is mirrored in the work we are doing to ensure a firm but fair approach to standards and discipline, with a clear emphasis that children feel safe to learn.

A strong stance is taken with students who disrupt the learning of others.

High standards of courtesy and respect are expected of students at all times, students are expected to wear the school uniform with pride and work hard at school and at home.”

Pastoral care

“At Phoenix Academy, we take pride in our school community and environment. We are driven by our school moto Libertas per cultum (‘freedom through education’) and thus the belief that education gives us the freedom to choose, think and live purposeful happy lives. Education is of the upmost importance, so the aim of our pastoral systems is to establish an environment and community where every minute of learning can be maximised.

All students receive the highest standards of pastoral care at Phoenix Academy. Our tutor system allows our students to meet daily for half an hour in small tutor groups, comprised of a teacher and students from the same year group. They are encouraged to support each other, working together and developing skills that will enhance their ability to achieve both academically and socially.

This system offers our students support from a Form Tutor that knows them as an individual. We take pride in the fact all our students are known well by their Head of Year, Pastoral Support Manager, Form Tutor and their teachers. This allows us to support our students with quality, personalised pastoral care, allowing them to fulfil their individual potential.”

Inclusion (SEND)

At our academy, we believe in creating inclusive environments that aim to meet the needs of all students.

We want to ensure that our Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision offers appropriate support for those facing barriers to their learning.

We provide support within all four broad areas of SEND:

  • cognition and learning
  • communication and interaction
  • sensory and physical
  • social, emotional and mental health

Our school SENDCO leads on the provision for students with SEND, and Gary Aubin oversees provision for students with SEND across Future Academies, to ensure that it is of the highest standards.
