ICT & Computer Science
Head of Department: Mrs N Issa
Computing enables students to understand computers and how they work, helping their development into competent and discerning users of technology. The study of computing encompasses ICT and computer science, and aids the development of students’ digital literacy, a skill becoming increasingly more important in our age of developing technology.
Key Stage 4
We follow the OCR GCSE Computer Science specification. A popular option at Phoenix, this course is an excellent opportunity for students to investigate how computers work and how they’re used, as well as to develop their computer programming and problem-solving skills. The course enables students to focus on the computer science strand of computing, and students learn how to solve real-life problems by breaking them down into manageable components. They will study algorithms, programming, software and hardware, as well as exploring the ethical, environmental, legal and cultural implications of technology in the rapidly developing 21st century.
